Description
Gary Groves from West Virginia is a real old school knifemaker. As a boy, he spent a lot of time outdoors, and his passion for knives was initiated by a gift from his father – a handmade knife made out of an old saw blade. After his deployment in Vietnam, he started working in the coal mines in West Virginia, and with the intense work he had with his profession, his knife making passion had to take a back seat. A severe accident in the coal mine in 2002 changed his life dramatically, leaving him disabled and unable to work. After a short period of orientation, he began to delve deeper into knife making. In 2007, he met his mentor, Leon Peal, who supported Gary significantly in his efforts, and since then, Gary is a well established member of the knife maker community. As a member of the American Knifemaker´s Guild as well as the American Bladesmith Society, his knives can be seen in various knife magazines, and his preference for classical Bowies and fighters can be clearly recognized in our Magnum Collection 2019. The bellied blade with the straight spine grants a very dynamic appearance, and the slightly angled handle with the massive guard gives a very fast action to this large knife. The swedge of the blade not only reduces the overall weight and gives a great balance, but also underlines the spectacular design. The handle is made out of canvas Micarta, in deep green and burgundy red, with polished steel rings in between. This exceptional piece is no doubt influenced by traditional patterns, but also finds, with the specific signature lines from Gary Groves, its very special expression – and impresses with the outstanding overall result. The blade is crafted of 440C, with a mirror polish finish, which is also applied on the hand guard. The Magnum Collection 2019 is strictly limited to 1,999 pieces worldwide. It comes with a high quality leather sheath, and in an exclusive collector´s box with a certificate of authenticity.
